YOUR SATISFACTION IS OUR SATISFACTION

What brand of paint does Southwestern use?

We currently use either one of two brands depending on the type of project and specific desires of the client.  We use either Sherwin Williams or Behr paint.  The latter paint has been rated #1 by consumer magazine the last four years and is growing in popularity with paint contractors.  Sherwin Williams has been making paint for many years and is one of the most respected names in the industry.

What types of home improvements does SouthWestern do?

We basically focus on improvements that enhance your home such as installing laminate flooring in a room(s).  A good example would be helping you design a make over or renovation of an existing bathroom.  Let’s say we do a faux Venetian Plaster finish in the bathroom and you decide you want to update the cabinets, sink, fixtures and toilet to match the Grecian motif.  We can do the removal of existing cabinets, fixtures, sinks, and toilets; then we can install the news items you choose according to your design.

How long does it take to finish an interior or exterior painting project?

That is going to depend on several factors.  The size of the residence or business is one such factor.  Another factor is the season of the year.  In Arizona, exterior projects usually take longer during the summer months due to the monsoons and heat.  Your paint professional from SouthWestern Paint & Design will discuss the project length and factors that could affect the completion time.

What kind of “prep” work do you do before painting?

Someone once said that a perfect painting depends on 70% preparation, 10% the type of paint, and 20% skill.  We at Southwestern take preparation as the very foundation for providing superior quality and excellence in our painting.  Our painters focus on two areas for preparation.  The first area is where we do not want paint.  We mask with paper, tape, plastic or canvas drop cloths places such as carpets, tile floors, cabinets, etc…anywhere we do not want paint.  Secondly, our painters then move onto the areas that are to be painted such as walls, ceilings or trim, etc…for preparation.

The standard preparation package includes caulking of trim; scraping and light sanding of walls to remove debris; spackling of small holes and defects and finally wiping down of all surfaces to be painted to remove residual dust.  In the case of trim, we will use either liquid sandpaper, a liquid de-glosser or hand sand all semi-gloss and gloss finishes before applying new paint.  Each project may require additional preparation before painting.  Our SouthWestern paint professional will go over every room’s particular preparation needs.

How hard is it to paint the whole house when it is occupied?

It does take more time and effort to design a painting plan for an occupied house, however, houses are painted everyday that have families living in them.  Our paint professional will sit down with you and develop a personalized schedule and plan that fits yours and your family’s needs.

Painting Tip:  When painting interiors you can cut down the smell of paint by adding 1-teaspoon vanilla extract to each gallon of paint.  It will not affect the paint in anyway.
